Generate Voices New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year one and all and welcome to the first Generate Blog of 2025

On the 9th of January 2025, the Generate Voices Forum kicked off the year with a session focused on new year’s resolutions. The discussion began with members reflecting on the value of resolutions, with some noting that they often feel pointless as they are frequently broken. This opened up a thoughtful conversation about personal experiences with setting goals and resolutions.

The group started by exploring the meaning of a New Year’s resolution.

  • Sean: “Well, it’s pretty much like you want to try something new that you didn’t do last year.”
  • Michelle: “It could be about health, like giving up chocolate or sweets and choosing healthier options like fruits and vegetables.”
  • Malachi: “It’s about making something more interesting or inventive.”
  • Zahra: “New Year’s resolutions are when you set goals for the new year that you want to achieve.”

After defining resolutions, we shared some key information:

A New Year’s resolution is a promise to yourself to start or stop doing something at the beginning of the year. Resolutions are often a way to inspire personal growth and think about areas for improvement or change.

The group then shared their thoughts and experiences with resolutions:

  • Michelle: “I haven’t made any resolutions because I feel you can make changes any day, not just at the start of the year. I’ve made resolutions in the past but kept breaking them.”
  • Malachi: “I barely use resolutions sometimes.”
  • Keither: Recalled breaking a resolution in 2021: “I had a goal of walking 30,000 steps daily, and I came close but didn’t quite reach it.”

Health-Related Goals

The conversation moved to health-focused goals:

  • Malachi: “It’s about knowing what’s healthy and what’s not.”
  • Sean: “I try to walk more sometimes over 10,000 or 15,000 steps. I’ve also been exploring new foods by watching cooking shows and recreating recipes.”
  • Michelle: “My goal is to cut down on portion sizes. I’ve started freezing leftovers instead of wasting food, and that’s something I plan to continue.”

A Bittersweet Goodbye

As the session concluded, the group shared their heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Sanam Shaikh, the Generate Voices Project Coordinator, who announced she would be leaving for a full-time role. Sanam has been an integral part of the Generate family, and her contributions will be deeply missed.

Closing Thoughts

The new year’s resolutions session was an engaging opportunity for members to reflect on personal growth and share practical ideas for the year ahead. It also served as a reminder that change and improvement can happen at any time, not just at the start of the year.

We look forward to seeing how everyone’s goals evolve throughout 2025 and wish Sanam all the best in her new role!

Thank you to our members and Thank you Sanam we wish you all the best hope to see you on the Voices forum again soon in 2025
