We’ve started three new projects since March 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown.
We’re managing a team of volunteers to do weekly grocery shopping for people who aren’t able to get to the shops. Clients – who are referred by social services or Age UK – give us their shopping list and we shop and deliver it to their door.
So far we have helped over 200 people who could not otherwise have shopped for themselves.
In collaboration with SHARE Community we prepare and deliver cooked meal parcels to people with learning disabilities who would not be able to access and cook nutritious meals for themselves.
The packing and deliveries are facilitated by Generate members with learning disabilities who are generously volunteering their time to help.
We are collaborating with FareShare to manage a food distribution hub in Wandsworth, taking in twice weekly deliveries of food that would otherwise go to waste, and redistributing it to 14 other community groups.
The food will be given to around 750 people in food poverty or unable to shop safely as a result of the restrictions related to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic.
Sorting and delivering food is done by a team of volunteers with learning disabilities and/or autism.
Beyond the current lockdown Generate aspires to build theses service into a nutrition focused social enterprise in collaboration with other community groups and to be able to offer employment, internship and apprenticeship opportunities to people with learning disabilities and/or autism. Please get in touch if this is something you are interested in helping with.
