The pandemic has been a difficult time for many people with a learning disability, with social distancing and shielding increasing the risk of becoming socially isolated. Our supported volunteering project aims to support learning disabled people to rebuild a life after Covid-19 that is meaningful to them, and to have a positive impact on their communities.
If you’d like to be supported to volunteer, you will be paired with a Volunteer Buddy with similar interests, and together you will volunteer in your local community.
There are loads of benefits to volunteering, including meeting friends, learning new skills, and pride in making a contribution to a cause.
“I have been volunteering for almost nine years. I volunteer with a steam locomotive because I am passionate about steam engines, especially the famous ones. I’ve made new friends and learnt more about how to look after a mainline engine. I like the cleaning jobs and I get to go on rail tours on the support coach.”
– Terry Bartlett, one of Generate’s two volunteer coordinators
We’re looking for people to volunteer alongside somebody with similar interests who might need some support.
