Generates buddy scheme offers 1:1 support to young people with a learning disability aged 11-19 years who live in the borough of Wandsworth. This support is for a total of 24 hours (sometimes increased to 36 hours), delivered over a period of 3 months.
A support worker will provide you with 1:1 support to make choices, gain a sense of control and independence, and increase your confidence and self-esteem.
The type of support you want is bespoke to you and your needs, and could include:
• travel training
• accessing leisure facilities
• finding a positive peer group
• accessing mainstream services.
“Isaac now catches the bus to school independently. His buddy Graham is always just a phone call or text away which really re-assures Isaac. Recently Tooting suffered a major burst water main, meaning that buses were not running from their usual stops. This didn’t phase Isaac; he just put into practice what he had learnt from Graham and got on with it. I was so proud of him!”
“Without Generates support, Isaac would still be taking the school taxi every day. This made him really miserable as the taxi spent so much time completing the school run. Now he gets an extra 40 minutes in bed in the mornings, and for a teenager that’s massive.”
