Generate Voices Pride Month (Discussion of all Prides)

Generate Voices believe that “Love is love” and that “Love should not be labelled” Two messages that still stand to this day! Recently, Generate Voices talked about this year’s theme for Pride Month: “The Fabric of Freedom.”

We discussed Pride Month not only in relation to the LGBTQ+ community but also in connection with other pride movements as well.

For example: Autistic Pride which celebrates Autistic people breaking barriers and living better lives.

We talked about what the theme of this year’s Pride means to our members. People have used fabrics to express their identities and to resist negativity.

The members said that society is “a lot more accepting now, whereas it wasn’t accepted previously.” Members also mentioned their friends who have come out as bisexual.

Our members watched a video of people around the world who celebrate Pride saying: “We are the fabric of freedom”

Other pride events include Learning Disability Pride, which takes place in July. This was started by Gary Bourlet, the founder of Learning Disability England, so that people with learning disabilities could celebrate themselves for who they are and how they want to.

Autistic Pride celebrates autistic people being proud of who they are. Generate Voices attends Autistic Pride events run by Autistic Empire each year, as it’s important for Generate to stay connected to the autistic community.
