On Friday 20th of September Generate Voices attended Lewisham Speaking Up’s People’s Parliament event at Catford Civic Suite at Lewisham Town Hall. the group consisted of Sean, Karen and Leon. We traveled there by train from Clapham Junction to Catford via Denmark Hill. we got there a few minutes late but we were lucky because the event started late because of speech rehearsals.
Guest Speakers were Labour MP for Lewisham North Vicky Foxcroft and City Bridge Foundation poet in residence Cecilia Knapp after they had their say and a poem was read out they had to leave the event as they were busy. Next speaker we had was Andrew Lee from People First’s London Campaign Network.
Speeches were made during the event all about self advocacy and Andrew Lee from People First’s London Campaign Network spoke about hate crime that is happening to people with a learning disability and the police should take anyone with learning disabilities & autism seriously.
Leon asked “What is most powerful weapon our voices or our Unity?”
that was a good question Leon
We purposed a vote on whether Generate Voices should get involved in the London Campaign Network.
Sean, Leon and Karen raised their hand which means Generate Voices will get involved in this campaign.
Votes were made during the event on electing candidates to be representatives for Lewisham Speaking Up and we took part in voting in after the speeches and Leon had a very important quote to say “Unless things change action will be taken”
Thank you Lewisham Speaking Up for having us at People’s Parliament.
