Inclusion and Engagement

Inclusion and Engagement

In Wandsworth there are more than 1400 people aged 18 up with moderate or severe learning disabilities and this number is growing.

Wandsworth residents with learning disabilities “do not have enough of a say in the services that are provided for them”, as identified in the Wandsworth Learning Disability Commissioning Strategy 2021-26.

People living with a learning disability are often excluded from genuine participation in the community or  involvement in decisions which affect their life.

They face a high level of inequalities when it comes to accessing health, social care services, transport, leisure activities, work and financial support.

The inclusion and Engagement programme embeds lived experience at the heart of Generate to create opportunities for inclusion and engagement both within and outside of the organisation.

With Generate Voices, our self-advocacy group, the Change-Maker project, the Health Project and the Easy Health website, we work with people with a learning disability and people who are neurodivergent to deliver health advocacy, self-advocacy and community outreach activities, as well as online engagements and forums.

With these projects, we create meaningful opportunities for people with learning disabilities and neurodivergent people to get their voices heard and advocate for change, to improve local services and have an impact on their communities.

Community Engagement & Advocacy

The Community Engagement & Advocacy projects gives people with learning disabilities/ who are neurodivergent the opportunity to come together and use their voice to campaign for positive change in Generate and beyond.

With Generate Voices and Change-Makers, we offer spaces and support for people with learning disabilities/ who are neurodivergent to meet, share their experiences, have a say in how services are delivered,  choose topics that they care about and campaign for change in local communities.

Improving Health for All

Easy Health is an online library where you can find easy to understand health information all in one place.

With over 600 resources with simple words, clear pictures and films, we help make healthcare easier to access and understand. When people understand, they can make decisions about their life, look after themselves and be more independent.

The information can be used by patients, carers and health/ social care professionals.

The Health Project Team works with multiple organisations, like the NHS, Public Health, local governments, universities and charities across London and the UK. We deliver projects that help make healthcare and primary care more accessible.

We create accessible resources for surgeries, patients outreach, assessing cancer pathways accessibility or delivering trainings to healthcare professionals and accessible trainings for people with access needs, we help organisations deliver projects that help reduce health inequalities and improve the health of people with learning disabilities.
